Our Legacy
In our little workshop, located in the hills of Middle Tennessee, we handcraft each piece to celebrate a lifetime of legacy while honoring traditions of times gone by.
Calaveras Caskets was founded on the belief that a life lived with purpose deserves a farewell marked by sincerity. Every casket and urn we produce is built using tradition rooted in funerary history and locally sourced timber, as available, reflecting the rugged beauty and enduring spirit of Tennessee. At the core of our values, we believe that our earthen vessels are meant to unite with the dirt of which we were once formed after our soul has fled. Utilizing natural mediums such as wood allow for this natural transfer while honoring our loved ones with the respect they deserve.
The history of a "Calavera" finds its' origins in the Mexican celebration of Dia de los Muertos where the word translates as "skull" and is used to depict a skull/skeleton displayed in honor of departed loved ones. During this Latin holiday, it is believed the souls of those gone before hover closer to earth than any other time, allowing those still remaining to connect and pay honor to their family. At Calaveras Caskets, our hope is to continue this homage to our departed ones from the point of death forward.
